Open Question: Tea Partiers - do you know who is funding your "party" and why?
Executives in mega-corporations just want to make more profits so their stock prices will increase, and therefore, so will their salaries and bonuses. They want instant gratification - they don't care if what they do to their companies will hurt the future, because they can always just go to another company. So what kinds of things will make more profit now:
1) Eliminate Social Security and Medicare - remember that employees pay half and the employer pays half of the contributions. If employers didn't have to contribute your half, they would save billions of dollars a year overall.
2) Let people invest in the stock market instead of Social Security - of course, what a great way to get investors into your business!! Remember though, the stock market is really gambling, but you will never hear that from the tea party. They won't tell you the risks.
3) Big business wants deregulation - so they can do whatever they want, no matter the safety of their products or their employees or even the environment. They don't care about people - they only care about profit. The only time they care about people is to get their people into the legislature through tea party votes.
4) Get rid of health care reform - of course big businesses would like to get rid of this! It cuts into their profits. They would love sick people to die, because sick people aren't out there buying stuff.
The John Birch Society was one of those that tried to convince people (back in the 60s) that the "Commies" were going to take over the US, and the Beatles were in on it. They said that their music contained subliminal messages to teenagers to kill their parents...
Sources? My parents were John Birchers. I grew up on it.

Open Question: How did Obama's new regulations for the FDA and more money help with the salmonella problem with the eggs?
Much of the new money at FDA is directed at food safety, which has become a top priority of the Obama administration after a series of deadly outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. A Salmonella outbreak earlier this year that was linked to peanut products killed nine people, sickened at least another 700 and triggered the largest food recall in U.S. history. Under the proposed budget, $259.3 million would be added for food safety to pay for stepped up inspections, better surveillance of food safety problems and enhanced ability to contain outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. The spending plan proposes that the FDA charge the food industry $94.4 million in new fees, money that will be used to register and inspect food manufacturing facilities, issue export certifications for food and animal feed, reinspect facilities that have failed to meet FDA safety standards
Looks to me like more regulations, and more money really didn't help
Lawgirl..
You believe that nobody follows the current standards, and instead of enforcing the ones we already have..
We should create more...
And that makes sense to you? Really?

Open Question: How could this product be better?
I am talking about mace or pepper spray. I am designing a new adaptation of this product. My target audience and market are college girls. There have been issues related to physical or sexual assault on certain college campuses since one can remember. The task at hand is to create a self defense item that would be practical when young women go for a stroll or a jog.
What would make it more effective against an assailant? Is portability, grip or firing method an issue or concern? What about the safety pin or mode of operation? Would you, as a user and consumer, prefer to use you index finger or your thumb to deploy the contents? It should be very comfortable to operate. What can you say of materials and color options?
Only serious answers please. We are all mature people here. Thank you!

Resolved Question: Should our government be more concerned about the health and safety of its people?
I am so sick of lobbyists distorting the image of truth in their biases. I am sick of powerful corporations taking advantage of the people and misleading them. But is it their fault? No. Business is business. It is OUR government's fault! For god's sake:
Products with half a gram of trans fat are allowed to be advertised as trans fat free.
The FDA doesn't have a real ban on what to feed our animals. Cows are fed cow blood and chickens at birth. They spend their lives in dark rooms hooked up to machines.
When chicken nuggets are sold, the fact that the whole chicken (brains, feathers, feet, all) go into our food.
Carcinogens from the products we use get into our systems and damage our livers, and nothing is done to control this.
Made up health claims are O.K. Check out Dannon's health claims on the american site, then check out the british site.
They are putting steroids in our milk. Do you wonder why kids are starting puberty earlier?
The assembly lines are dangerous. Often, blood and sweat from the workers, and excrement gets in beef.
Our legislators are usually morons, who get into office because they are rich; not because they are qualified. They never learn about the issues; rather they do what lobbyists tell them to do. You don't even need to get a college degree, let alone finish high school to be a congressman.
I can hardly look at food anymore without gagging. I need to get out of this country soon.
No joke. I want to live in Germany. I'm only 15, but I want to live in Bremen when I grow up. Why? Better quality of life, and it's not all about the money there.
